Summer Reading Program

Please see our events page for information on monthly events.

Story Time
- Pre-school Story Time is every Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:30 year round. However, all ages are welcome. We read favorite stories, do finger plays, crafts, and color a picture that goes along with whatever we have read.

Brown Bag Book Club - The Brown Bag Book Club is a book club for adults and meets every second Wednesday from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. in the library conference room. The group selects a book every month to read and discuss. Previous selections have included Beloved, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, The Glass Castle, Under the Banner of Heaven, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, and many others both fiction and non-fiction.

Middle School Book Club  (Registration Open Now! Visit http://chesterlibrary.readsquared.com/)- The Middle School Book Club is open to children who have finished third grade through sixth grade. The group meets every Thursday from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M. during the months of June and July. A book is selected for the entire group to read, and it is discussed at the following meeting. The children usually do either an art project or a game that goes along with the book, and a snack is served that is book-related. Some of our previous favorites have been Sarah, Plain and Tall; Mr. Popper's Penguins, How to Eat Fried Worms, The Wizard Of Oz, Emily's Runaway Imagination, My Side of the Mountain, The Penderwicks, Amelia Earhart: Young Aviator, and Jeremy Thatcher: Dragon Hatcher. Each child is responsible for purchasing his/her own book.

R.E.A.D.S. - R.E.A.D.S. stands for Regional Ebook & Audiobook Download System. If you enjoy reading on your digital reader or would just like to see how this technology works, visit our READS site and use your library card to download books for free. Just use your library card number and create a free account to begin. There is a wonderful tutorial to help you get started. Click here to access this site. The Chester County Library has also purchased e-books for our own library. To view these unique titles that are not in the shared collection or extra copies of popular titles that our library has purchased, click here. We are the Hatchie River Region on the map. If you have any questions, feel free to call the library at 731-989-4673.

Summer Reading Program - Every summer, our library has a summer reading program on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays usually during the month of June. We schedule various programs that both entertain and educate. Children of all ages are welcome. Some of our programs have been puppet shows, a program featuring loccal wildlife, celtic history, fishing, scuba diving, illusionists, beekeeping, and an instrument petting zoo featuring the CCHS Marching Eagles. Children who wish to may fill out Reading Logs or Listening Logs to receive prizes for the number of books they read from the library during the reading program's duration.

The 2020 theme is "Imagine Your Story." The schedule has been set and we plan to follow it as closely as possible during the pandemic. As we get closer to time, we will determine if we are able to host our program in person, in person with restrictions, or virtually only. We do have reading and listening logs available! Call the library or come by to pick up yours today! Finally, we have two contests this year! We have a story writing contest and a lego competition. Instructions, guidelines, and registration can be seen below. You can also come by the library to pick up a registration today!
